The Sangoma SS7 Media Gateway empowers Sangoma's premium line of telephony cards to act as aVoIP to SS7 Gateway. It enables SS7 signals to communicate with protocols like SIP, IAX, H.323 and SIP/T.38.

The Sangoma SS7 Media Gateway also acts as an SS7 to ISDN Converter to convert PRI or BRI to SS7 for PSTN access and enables an SS7 IVR to be built on top of SS7 TDM Lines.

Because Sangoma SS7 Media Gateway is a distributed solution, it is not "tied" to Asterisk^®. It simply leverages the power of Asterisk^® and similar open Telephony Engines, like CallWeaver^™ to handle things, such as call control, dial plans, IVR, Call Data Record logging, etc. Because it works with open source solutions, the system is exceedingly flexible.

With Sangoma SS7 Media Gateway the servers communicate via IP/Ethernet, so Asterisk^® can run on a separate server and maximize system resources and ultimately boost the volume of calls that the Sangoma SS7 Media Gateway system can handle.

A single "box" model
The complete solution is installed in one server. This solution is appropriate in systems where transcoding is not required.

A dual "box" model
Asterisk^® is installed in one box and the rest of the solution is installed in another. This can accommodate up to 16 E1 lines and transcoding because the telephony engine (Asterisk^® or CallWeaver^™) is running on a separate machine.

A Clustering Solution/Distributed Model
Although all solutions can be upgraded to this model, this solution is recommended for the ultimate in scalability when the ability to scale is a known requirement at the initial install. In this solution, the Sangoma SS7 Media Gateway Software is divided between two separate servers with Asterisk^® running on a third server.

• Server A: Asterisk^® or similar telephony engine
• Server B: Sangoma Media Gateway Daemon + ss7boost Call Control + Sangoma Hardware
• Server C: ss7box^™

To scale the solution, simply add more servers. Adding additional Servers, like A and B, will scale the number of calls, and the single Server C, housing ss7box^™ will continue to handle the call routing.
